LANCASTER — State Representative Harold Naughton Jr. told selectmen Monday night that he believes that Governor Deval Patrick's mid-year cuts to the budget, especially to local aid, can be alleviated by use of the state's rainy day fund.

He noted that while the governor had the authority to make cuts to agencies within the executive branch, any other cuts, including local aid, Chapter 70 funding to schools and regional schools' bus transportation, would require the vote of the legislature.

STERLING – State Rep. Harold Naughton (D-Clinton) is heading into a third decade of representing the 12th Worcester District at the State House.

"I have known many veterans like her," said State Rep. Harold Naughton Jr., a captain in the Army Reserves. "They look for an opportunity to continue to give."

Naughton said he spoke to a fellow veteran, who described it as "the curse of meaningful work."
